Prishita Shah

I was previously researching for Dr. Aarti Shyamsunder who recommended me to Serein. This was just supposed to be something for me to do for 2 months before my college started again in 2021. I never expected to like working here enough, to want to continue working for as long as I could. Since the fate gods don’t seem to want that for me, I’ll just stick to letting you know how much of a wonderful time I had working here. I have always wanted to work with an all-female organisation. Working with capable and amazing women made me feel like I could also turn into them one day. This is potentially my unconscious bias, but I felt that women can understand the challenges other women face much better. Never once did I feel ignored while working here, or that my ideas weren’t valued as much as any other colleague. I was always assigned projects that appealed to me, and I was always met with sincere understanding about everything that probably went wrong. Just the other day I was explaining my work profile to a friend and I realised the multitude of things I learnt within such a short period. 

I went into psychology because of the horrible experiences I faced as a child in need of professional help. And for as long as I can remember, I wanted to be a clinical psychologist. But when it came to choosing a career, I realised I don’t have the mental capacity to deal with a career that would be so intense and taxing on my mental health. I had to put myself first, and the guilt of not going into a field where I could help people like myself was eating away at me. I enjoy industrial psychology, no doubt about that. But the field of D & I is something that came to me when I most needed it. However god-complexy that sounds, I have always wanted to work in a field where I could help people. If not to give back, but maybe make their workplace safer and more comfortable for them. The kind of work I see you people do, and the kind of passion that can only come through a thorough enjoyment is extremely commendable. The amount of respect everyone here has for each other is amazing to see and is something I can hopefully emulate. 

Thank you for letting me be a part of your organization, and learn everything that I did. I am no longer afraid of doing anything remotely technologically challenging. You guys get ALL the credit, not kidding. This was the first actual internship I’ve done, and I am so glad it was with you guys. So, thank you for everything 🙂
